Pastoral Challenges among the Youth in Kibiko Parish
On the great challenges is on the issue of ongoing formation is lacking a systematic program for the youth in St. Anna Catholic Parish. Systematic program it means an integral system which helps the youth to develop in all aspect of life, despite the fact that youth met every Sunday after mass, still the ongoing formation is not sufficient to meet the Church expectations. As we have said earlier, that the goal of catechetical instructions is to bring conversion among the youth in their spheres of life, hence, catechetical program must be reviewed and have continuity. Youth attendance is not consistence in which some appears in the group meetings on the day they want. Seminars and retreats are very rare among the youth. There is also a challenge of commitment among the youth; some are not committed to their Sunday’s program thus why some do not come consistently.
- Most of the youth in St. Anna Catholic Parish are preoccupied with secular world, which is the world of materialism. With the help of scientific discovery, most of youth finds themselves driven with the secularism. The matters of faith are no longer important in the lives of youth. The growth of secularism makes many people to engaging themselves in searching for materials.
Being the fact that tribalism is a major problem in Kenya, the youth in St. Anna Catholic in Kibiko are not excluded in this scenario. Tribalism is a major challenge to the catechetical means of evangelization, because tribalism has divided youth in their tribes. Despite of the fact that Catechesis has been taught for many years, still it has not been able to unite the youth in one heart and one spirit that is total conversion.
Kibiko is a migrant place in which people from different background lives, hence, people lives and associates with those who belong to their own tribe. Youth relationship even elders are built in the matters of tribal basis. As a result, catechesis as evangelization has not yet been transforming people into Christ image. Hence, there is a need of new catechesis that is new evangelization.
